Mr. Canales advises and assists the Director of Legal Affairs to provide in-house counsel to the association, especially related to group purchasing and contracts, as well as advice, templates and trainings to TACHC member health centers.
Mr. Canales earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies from Southwestern University, a Master of Public Affairs degree from the LBJ School of Public Affairs at The University of Texas at Austin, and a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from The University of Texas School of Law. He is licensed to practice law in Texas and is admitted to practice in all federal courts in Texas, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Tax Court.
Prior to joining the legal department at TACHC in June 2020, Mr. Canales spent more than 13 years as the Assistant Executive Director for Governmental Relations at the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA). He also previously served as an Assistant Attorney General for Texas Attorneys General Greg Abbott and John Cornyn and as a former chief of staff to the late Representative Irma Rangel of Kingsville.
